Simple Valentine Dinosaur Crayons

This is a straightforward craft to do, the trickiest part was removing the paper from the crayons. I first soaked them in water, then peeled the paper off - but in hindsight, I should have just used a craft knife to cut the paper and then removed it in one.

I used these crayons and these moulds.

Once you’ve removed the paper from the crayons, you need to break them into smaller pieces - as small as you can get them. Then all that’s left to do is pop them into the moulds and melt them in the oven.

My tip would be to overfill the moulds, and then add in some more. Check them halfway through, and pop some more crayons in if the mould isn’t full when melted.

I set my oven to 100°C and melted them for 20 minutes. Then let them cool for 20 minutes, and pop them out of the mould.

Use cheaper crayons, as they break easily and melt well. I had a few nicer crayons lying around that were broken and these just didn’t melt down.

My daughter loved helping to make these, and I just made sure that she didn’t touch them when they were hot.

After they had cooled and we removed them from the moulds, we added them to little paper bags stamped with ‘You Are A Dinomite Friend’, and filled them with some sweets. Finally, we clipped them together with little heart pegs, that we had coloured in. I bought them from Søstrene Grene, but can’t find them online. These glitter ones are also sweet.

We then gave them out to all her friends for Valentine’s Day, and have been using the leftover rainbow dinosaurs to make all kinds of fun drawings this week.
